Definition
S-mark is voluntary certification that applies to all electrical and electronic products. Non-specific electrical products and products not within PSE certification scope are recommended to do S-mark.
Although it is voluntary certification, more and more manufacturers do S-Mark certification to gain a competitive advantage in the market, similar to GS in Germany. S-mark also covers Safety & EMI, and requires factory inspection.
Accreditation body Now, there are 4 certification bodies that join in SCEA, including Japan Electrical Safety & Environment Technology Laboratories (JET), Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA), UL Japan Co., Ltd. (UL Japan) and TÜV Rheinland Japan (TÜV Rheinland ).

How to apply S-mark? 1. Customers submit samples, technical document and test application form to AGC. 2. AGC conduct test evaluation and document review. 3. AGC submits samples and document to accreditation body. 4. Arrange factory inspection while doing testing. 5. Review and verify test report. 6. Issue S-Mark certificate.

Certificate validity period: no validity period, need annual audit to maintain its validity. Factory inspection requirement: need initial factory inspection and annual audit.
