Introduction to KC Certification

The KCC-2008-108 document published on August 7, 2007 officially announced that the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) replaced the previous Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC).

The KC mark is the national unified certification mark of South Korea. Since January 1, 2011, 13 certification marks have been incorporated into the national comprehensive certification mark - KC.

KC certification is a compulsory certification for IT information, telecommunication and RF wireless radio frequency products implemented in accordance with South Korea's "Telecommunications Basic Law" and "Radio Wave Law", including radio frequency test, electromagnetic compatibility test and SAR test, etc. The accredited Korean laboratory conducts compliance test and the RRA issues a type approval certificate.

KCC Label Style

Fundamental contents:

KC logo

KC certification number

Conformity assessment information: applicant company name or brand name, product name, model name, date of manufacture, manufacturer, country of origin

Remark:

1. The minimum height of KC shall not be less than 5mm.

2. It needs to be printed on the product and on the packing box, and it is not allowed to write the product information only in the manual. If the product size is very small or due to product design reasons, KC Label can be printed on the package or just print the KC logo/certificate number on the product. Relevant conformity assessment information can be added to the instructions (including electronic labelling).

Application Process

1. Client should prepare samples and data and submits them to AGC for prediction and pre-audit.
2. AGC submits the samples and data to the RRA accredited laboratory in Korea for testing.
3. The Korean laboratory conducts the test. After the test is completed, the KC test report is issued and submitted to the RRA for review and certification.

KC Safety Approval

KC safety certification, formerly known as EK certification, is a mandatory safety certification system implemented by the Korea Agency of Technology and Standards (KATS) in accordance with the Electronic Appliances Safety Control ACT on January 1, 2009. In order to prevent consumer safety accidents such as electric shock and fire, South Korea has implemented a safety management system for electronic appliances, mainly for electronic appliances with AC30V-1000V, or DC 42V above, also including some low-voltage (high-risk) products. Products within the scope of control are only allowed to leave the factory and sell if they have obtained safety certification.

In order to avoid duplication of certification, from July 1, 2012, EMC and Safety have been separated and managed. All electrical and electronic products that apply for Korean certification must obtain KC certificate and KCC certificate (new MSIP) respectively according to their Safety and EMC requirements.

According to the requirements of the latest "Electronic Appliances Safety Control ACT", KC certification is divided into mandatory safety certification, self-discipline safety certification and supplier self-confirmation according to the different hazard levels of products. Among them, the products controlled by mandatory safety certification are more dangerous, and the products controlled by supplier self-confirmation are less dangerous.

Application Process

1. Client should prepare samples and data and submits them to AGC for prediction and pre-audit.
2. AGC submits samples and data to the Korean certification agency KTR/KTL/KTC or other accredited laboratories for testing.
3. KTR/KTL/KTC conducts Safety testing. After the test is completed, the KC test report will be issued.
4. ( if any) For safety certification, KTR/KTL/KTC needs to arrange a factory audit, and an annual factory audit will be conducted every 2 years.
5. KTR/KTL/KTC review reports and other application documents, and the KC certificate will be issued if no problem.
