Toy Amazon Japan Station Compliance Requirements Release Time:2022-10-27

The Japanese Food Hygiene Law (JFSL) is a mandatory requirement for toys for children under 6 years of age, which mainly stipulates the chemical safety performance. The ST Standard is specially formulated by the Japan Toy Association (JTA) for children's toys. S is for safety, T is for toys. The standard is voluntary. At the same time, JTA has established the ST Mark to ensure the safety of toys. Toys that meet the toy safety standards formulated by the Japan Toy Association are allowed to attach the ST mark on products. Although the ST logo is voluntary, it is highly recognized in the Japanese market. The manufacturer or importer shall first sign an agreement with the Japan Toy Association on the use of the ST mark, and then submit the samples to the testing agency designated by the Toy Association for safety standard testing. If the sample test is passed, the applicant will obtain the authorization code and be allowed to attach the ST mark.

The current standard version of the Japanese Toy Safety Standard is ST 2016, which specifies three requirements for toys:

Part 1 Physical and mechanical properties mainly include the requirements and corresponding test methods for materials, small parts, edges, sharp points, driving toys, water toys, toy sports equipment, etc., and specifies the requirements for packaging and labeling.

Part 2 Flammability is completely equivalent to the international toy standard ISO 8124-2:2014, including general requirements, flammability requirements for head toys, cosmetics, toys for children and soft filled toys.

Part 3 Chemical safety performance, mainly refers to the Japanese Food Hygiene Law (JFSL), and focuses on the toxicity of different toy materials, especially PVC, PE, rubber and coatings.

Amazon, in combination with the requirements of Japanese toys, has different safety documents for toys sold on Amazon's Japanese according to their age. The details are as follows:
