VST is the temperature when a sample of engineering plastics, general-purpose plastics and other polymers are pressed into a depth of 1mm by a 1mm2 indenter in a liquid heat transfer medium under a certain load and a certain constant rate of temperature rise. This temperature reflects the desired softening point when a material is used in a heating device.
