FCC stands for the Federal Communication Commission. It is an agency of the United States government in charge of radio spectrum management. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) implements standards of broadcasting and adjusts electromagnetic noise source to avoid “radio broadcasting pollution”.
Electrical and electronic products may generate radio spectrum noise. When current move within the electrical product, it generates electromagnetic wave that might contribute to electromagnetic interference with other product.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is in charge of the development, enforcement and implementation of regulations that Congress set forth in the Communications Act of 1934 and the Telecommunications Act of 1996. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an agency of the United States federal government that was created to regulate all forms of telecommunication inside of the U.S. including radio, television, digital cameras, Bluetooth, wireless devices and a broad gamut of RF electronics.
FCC certification is compulsory in USA, most wireless-related products, communication products and digital devices must be certified by FCC before breaking into US market.
Two modes of FCC Certification
FCC regulations specify different standards on FCC label and warning mark for two certification modes, which requires manufacturers should identify what types of testing are necessary for their products before making FCC labels. FCC related regulations have a clear instruction on testing mode for different kinds of products. And these two certification modes differs in strictness. Compared with another mode, FCC Certification (FCC ID) is the strictest one with more difficulties on certification and testing techniques.
1. Supplier's Declaration of Conformity (SDoC)
Supplier's Declaration of Conformity is a procedure where the responsible party, as defined in §2.909, makes measurements or completes other procedures found acceptable to the Commission to ensure that the equipment complies with the appropriate technical standards. For equipment subject to Supplier's Declaration of Conformity the party responsible for the compliance of the equipment with the applicable standards, who must be located in the United States. The responsible party may, if it desires, apply for Certification of a device subject to the Supplier's Declaration of Conformity. In such cases, all rules governing certification will apply to that device.
2. FCC Certification
FCC-recognized accredited testing laboratory audit samples (or pictures) and testing data submitted by applicant and a FCC ID will be issued by FCC if the data comply with FCC regulations.
Equipment applied to FCC Certification including low-level emitter, such as wireless phone, wireless remote-control toys, security alarm system, automatic frequency control receiver, etc. The responsible party should ensure the device are authorized with a FCC ID.
What Products Require FCC Certification?
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates import and usage of radio frequency devices includes computer, fax, electronic devices, radio receiving and transmitting equipment, wireless remote-control toys, phone, personal computer and products that may threaten safety of the public. Any products sold in the United States must comply with the FCC regulations and gain FCC certification.
FCC divides controlled products into category A and category B according to the usage. Category A contains products used in business or industrial while category B contains products used in household. Besides, considering household users are lack of professional training and electrical safety environment is not as good as environment in office, FCC impose more strict regulations on products of category B.
Why do you need FCC certification?
FCC certification is just like the passport for products sold in American market. Only products in compliance with FCC regulations and be stamped with corresponding FCC mark can be sold in the American market. As for the consumer, a product with FCC mark are more reliable and safety to purchase.
