Regional and national food contact materials Release Time:2021-12-07

The current EU regulation on food contact materials is a regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004 (Regulation NO. 1935/2004/EC) on food contact materials passed by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on November 13

The current EU regulation on food contact materials is a regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004 (Regulation NO. 1935/2004/EC) on food contact materials passed by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on November 13, 2004 of The European Parliament  And Of The Council Of 27 October 2004), this regulation not only replaces the previously implemented 80/590/EEC and 89/109/EEC directives, but also inherits and develops previous regulations in terms of content. It is the latest EU basic framework regulation on food contact materials and products, and it sets strict limits on the total amount of migrating substances in food contact materials. Up to now, there are more than 30 EU directives or regulations concerning food contact materials and products. The main test items include the overall migration in different food simulants, and the specific migration of certain specific substances in different food simulants: such as formaldehyde, primary aromatic amines, heavy metal elements, etc. The regulatory requirements are detailed in the table below:

France DGCCRF

France DGCCRF is the English abbreviation of French food-grade safety regulations. Such products sold to France, in addition to complying with EU Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 regulatory requirements, must also comply with French local regulatory requirements, including French DGCCRF 2004-64 and French Décret no 92-631. French regulations not only have special requirements for plastic and rubber products that come in contact with food, but also have special classifications and requirements for metal products. For example, cookware with organic coating requires testing on the surface of the coating, as well as the metal as the base material. Requirements. The test items include: overall migration in different food simulating liquids, specific migration of a specific substance in different food simulating liquids, testing of transferable or volatile organic compounds, peroxide value, testing of heavy metals that can be precipitated, etc. The regulatory requirements are

Germany LFGB

In September 2005, the new German Food and Food Articles Law LFGB replaced the food and daily necessities LMBG. It is also known as the "Food, Tobacco Products, Cosmetics and Other Daily Articles Management Law". It is the most important basic legal document in the management of food hygiene in Germany, and it is the norm and core of other special food hygiene laws and regulations. In general, the test items of Articles 30 and 31 of the LFGB German Food and Commodity Law include: sensory evaluation of odor and taste transfer, overall migration in different food simulants, and certain types of food simulants in different food simulants. Specific migration of specific substances, testing of components and heavy metals that can be precipitated, testing of transferable or volatile organic compounds, and testing of chemical hazardous substances according to the German Chemical Law. U.S. Food Grade Regulations: US Food GradeU.S. FDA CFR 21 Part 175-189 & FDA CPG 7117.05, 06, 07

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), affiliated to the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, is responsible for the management of drugs, food, biological products, cosmetics, veterinary drugs, medical devices, and diagnostic supplies across the country. In the United States, the FDA mainly controls most food-contact products through the Food Additives Declaration Program (FAP). If a food additive or a material in contact with food is approved for use by the FAP program, this material will be entered into the corresponding regulations in US FDA CFR 21 PARTS 170-189. Manufacturers should strictly follow food-grade regulations to produce qualified food-contact products and materials. The main items tested include chloroform soluble extracts of different simulated liquids, extracts of different simulated liquids, density, melting point, monomers of harmful chemical substances, extractable heavy metals, etc. The regulatory requirements are detailed in the table below:
