Household appliances mainly refer to various electrical and electronic appliances used in homes and similar places. Household appliances help us do a lot of trivial housework and create a more comfortable and beautiful living environment. It is essential in our family life. In order to ensure consumer safety, International Electrotechnical Commission has formulated a series of safety standards for different household appliances to improve its safety.
With increasing development of science and technology, smart and multifunctional household appliance has emerged rapidly. The design of household appliance must comply with safety standards and safety standards are also constantly updated to meet requirement of new products.
Product Classification (Protection against electric shock)
Class 0 | Electric shock protection only relies on basic insulated appliances. That is, it does not connect conductive and easily accessible parts (if any) to the fixed wiring of the facility to protect the conductor. Once basic insulation fails, electric shock protection relies on the environment. |
Class 0I | An appliance at least having basic insulation in its entirety and having a ground terminal, but having power supply with no ground wire and a plug without ground pins. |
Class I | Its electric shock protection not only relies on basic insulation but also includes an appliance with additional safety protection measures. The protective measure is to connect those easily accessible conductive parts to the grounding protective conductor in the fixed wiring of the facility, so that in case the basic insulation edge fails, the easily accessible live parts will not get an electric shock. |
Type II | The electric shock protection not only relies on basic insulation, but also provides additional safety protection measures such as double insulation or reinforced insulation. These appliances do not have protective grounding or measures that depend on installation conditions |
Type III | An appliance relies on a safety extra-low voltage power supply to provide protection against electric shock. Its voltage is not higher than safety extra-low voltage. |
Type of Appliance
Portable | Appliances that are expected to move during work or non-stationary appliances less than 18 kg. |
Handheld | Portable appliances intended to be held by hand during usage. |
Standing | Fixed appliances or non-portable appliances. |
Fixed | An appliance that is tightly fixed on a stand or a specific position for use. |
Built-in | Fixed appliances intended to be installed in cabinets, niches in the walls or similar places. |
Electric heating | Appliances equipped with electric heating elements without electric motors. |
