Introduction to Light Aging Test Release Time:2022-01-17

In daily life, sunlight exposure is a very common environmental phenomenon. Polymer materials such as coatings and plastics often appear discoloration, chalking, blistering, cracking, and peeling during long-term use under sunlight, which seriously affects the mechanical properties and appearance performance of the product. Therefore, in the research and development of coatings, plastics, and some automotive interiors, products that are often exposed to light conditions need to simulate natural use conditions, that is, to evaluate them through light aging test to provide evaluation basis. At the same time, in order to quickly evaluate the performance of materials, in the light aging test of new materials, artificially accelerated light aging test is used frequently.

Each of the four different types of light conditions has its advantages and disadvantages. In the selection of which test method should be based on the characteristics of the product itself and the actual use of the external environment. The performance and life of products can be more accurately and deeply understood by artificial accelerated light aging test, and eliminate products with poor quality or poor light resistance in a timely manner. In addition, when choosing different types of light conditions for testing, it is necessary to understand the structure of the sample and the purpose of the test firstly. For example, test in simulating actual light conditions or destructive light conditions, or test in full-spectrum light conditions or mainly simulating ultraviolet light conditions, so that the correct light aging conditions and test equipment can be selected accordingly.
