Introduction to China’s Textile Technical Standards and Regulations Release Time:2023-09-21

China's standards are divided into two categories: mandatory standards and recommended standards according to their attributes. Mandatory standards have the nature of regulations and are standards that enterprises must implement; recommended standards are ones that the state encourages enterprises to adopt voluntarily. Textile and clothing technical standards include four categories: mandatory standards (GB), recommended national standards (GB/T), industry standards (FZ) and SN standards for inspection and quarantine systems.

Mandatory standard 1: GB 18401-2010 "National Basic Safety Technical Specifications for Textile Products"

Scope of application: Applicable to clothing, decorative and household textile products produced and sold in my country, such as clothing, sheets, quilt covers, gloves, socks, hats, towels, curtains, bibs, sweat-absorbent towels, etc. GB 18401 divides textile products into the following three categories: infant textile products (textile products used by infants and young children under 36 months of age), textile products that directly contact the skin, and textile products that do not directly contact the skin.

Mandatory standard 2: GB 31701-2015 "Safety Technical Specifications for Textile Products for Infants and Children"

Scope of application: Suitable for textile products for infants and children, such as children's clothing, sheets, quilt covers, gloves, socks, hats, towels, curtains, bibs, and sweat-absorbent towels. Its coverage does not include plush toys, fabric handicrafts, disposable sanitary products, suitcases, backpacks, umbrellas, carpets, professional sportswear, etc. The standard is divided into two categories according to the applicable age group: infant textile products (≤36 months); children's textile products (3 to 14 years old).

Mandatory standard 3: GB 20400-2006 "Limits of Hazardous Substances in Leather and Fur"

Scope of application: Applicable to the limits of harmful substances in daily leather and fur products produced and sold in my country. Leather and fur generally refer to genuine leather products. Products are divided according to end use: Category A: products for infants and young children; Category B: products in direct contact with the skin; Category C: products in indirect contact with the skin.

Mandatory standard 4: GB 21550-2008 "Limits of Hazardous Substances in Polyvinyl Chloride Artificial Leather"

Scope of application: This standard applies to polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC) as the main raw material and the addition of appropriate additives, foamed or non-foamed, with or without base material, produced by coating/calendering/compositing processes PVC artificial leather.

Supplementary explanation: Although GB 5296.4-2012 was changed from a mandatory standard to a recommended standard GB/T 5296.4-2012 "Instructions for Use of Consumer Products Part 4: Textiles and Clothing", according to relevant regulations, especially China's product supervision and spot inspection Most of the time, recommended national standards or industry standards are also used as the basis for analyzing product quality levels. This actually makes recommended standards or industry standards highly binding and becomes a condition for corresponding products to enter the market.
